Frequently Asked Questions
How do I register for a course?
Please go to our Courses information and select the General Course Information heading. This will give you complete instructions on how to register.
I know absolutely nothing about gardening or plants, can I do the course?
The course is designed for beginners and covers Design Principals, Design Process, Site Analysis, Introduction to scale and drawing and Introduction to plants in respect of their use in design.
I can't draw, will I be able to cope?
We will teach you to represent your design, simply but accurately.
Is the course accredited?
While this is important if you are planning to work professionally, our course aims to enable the average gardener to manage his/her own needs creatively and to enrich his/her knowledge of the ingredients of design to the point of practical application. I.S.G.D. added advance design and implementation in 2006 and is not accredited.
Will I be able to work as a designer/landscaper?
You will be able to design most of your own garden as well as recognize mistakes and how to correct them. You will also be able to assess your level of ability and knowledge in order to make a decision in this regard. Most students need to study further and gain experience. A few are already competent and experienced gardeners who only needed to learn the design principals and planting design.
If I only want to learn to design my own garden, is it worth it?
Gardening mistakes are costly in terms of money and time. Learning to plan and design on paper will help you avoid this while giving you the pleasure and satisfaction of creating a garden that reflects your personal preference and style.
Is the course expensive?
It is very good value for money and will pay for itself by helping you to avoid making costly mistakes, as well as adding real value to your property.
